6th of June – Sweden’s national day

The 6th of June is Sweden’s national day and a public holiday. We celebrate that in 1523 Gustav Vasa became king, and Sweden became a united country and broke the Kalmar Union (you will have to look it up on Wikepedia if you want to know more). The weather was spectacular and had been all week leading up to the long weekend. The only place to spend it was on Orust at the summer house. It was like a mini vacation. The family gathered in the cottage and at “nabbarna” for soaking up the sun and the salt water. 18ºC in the sea and 25º in the air. Perfect!
