Summer roadtrip – day 8

The final night of our trip is spent back in Berlin. We arrive just after lunch from Leipzig. The hotel room is in Kreuzburg, a bohemian part of Berlin.

We have lunch at a café and I have a huge serving of hummus. The first half is nice, after that it gets a bit much and I swear I will not eat anything made from chickpeas again for a long time.

It’s too early to check in so we take a walk to the Treptower Park by the Spree, have a beer, and do some people-watching. On the way there we pass tents of homeless on the river bank. There are all sorts of weird people in the parks we pass through. A really striking thing is all the graffiti sprayed on every single building. It is quite shocking and makes it look really rough and run down, but no one seems to care. The Treptower Park is full of interesting people. We have our beers and just watch them walk by.

There are people playing music on the canal banks as we walk back. We see more and more people in burlesque dress, and when we get to the Kottsbusser Damm we realize that today is the Berlin Pride festival and parade. The streets are full of people. We grab a table on the sidewalk at an Indian restaurant for dinner and just watch the procession happening around us.

On our way to the hotel we pass “the world of chickpea” advertising dozens of different hummuses. You can’t help but love Berlin.
