Day 6 – Salzburg

It was tough to leave our little hotel by Lago di Garda. We really wanted to stay longer. Next time we will plan differently.

The drive back up through the valley was just as awesome as the way down. This time we paid to drive on autostrada to save some time, but we turn off just north off Bolzano to visit Eisacktaler Kelleri for a few bottles of their Kerner white wine, and to charge the car. Then back on the autostrada, through the Brenner Pass (where we stop for a sandwich), down to Innsbruck, and then on to Salzburg.

The hotel in Salzburg is located in dodgy part of town. Across the street is a sexshop. The hotel itself is an old family hotel. It’s a bit worn and the room is 90’s throwback. It’s clean and the beds are comfy, but there is no AC and the lighting is poor. The owners are friendly and chatty and speak good English. From the hotel it’s a 20 minute walk along the river to the old town. We have dinner and a beer in a biergarten before taking a stroll around the town. It’s warm but it’s beautiful evening. We stop for a Spritz before heading back to the hotel along the river in the glowing sunset.
