The first weekend in September, summer is drawing to a close. Peter, our good friend and former neighbour, turned 70 earlier this year and we gave him a weekend in Copenhagen as a present. This was the weekend.
We took the train from Göteborg at 7:30 am on Saturday, changed trains in Malmö, and got in to Køpenhavn Central Station before noon. We walked to the Hotel Kong Arthur, dropped our bags off and walked to Kanal Cafeen for a fantastic smørrebrød lunch washed down with cold Danish pilsner.
We strolled down Strøget to Nyhavn and then back to the hotel in the warm afternoon sun. We had booked a table at Restaurant Kronborg. Fabulous Danish food, great beer and their own house akvavit. Best of was the warm and friendly atmosphere and the great service.
After a hearty, ecological breakfast on Sunday morning we went back down to Nyhavn and took at sightseeing tour on a tourist boat around the canals and harbour of Copenhagen. We passed the royal Danish yacht, the opera house and the Kanal Cafeen, where we had lunch the previous day, amongst other things. After the tour we crossed the Inderhavnsbroen to the Borens Gadekøkken streetfood market and had lunch.
After lunch it was time to head to the railway station and the train back to Göteborg.
