Day 5 – Lago di Garda
After two great days in Bolzano we book a night in a small hotel high up on the west side overlooking Lago di Garda. It’s a beautiful drive down the valley through Trento and down into Riva del Garda, where we stop for beer and a pizza on the shore. It’s hot and crowded but beautiful. The view down the lake with the mountains on either side is magnificent.
The road to the hotel is steep, narrow and winding with lots of blind corners. Doesn’t seem to faze the locals in their little Fiats, nor the German tourists in their massive SUV’s. We meet them head on with the slightest of margins.
The hotel is quite small. It feels luxurios in an understated way. Our room is large, aircondioned, with a big balcony with an amazing view over the lake to the other side. Bihind the hotel is a simming pool with an equally amazing view over the lake. After a swim we go to the bar and sit on their terrace as the sun sets behind us and casts a shadow on the mountains on the other side and enjoy some Spritz, still digesting the pizzas we had for lunch.
A good nights sleep, a dip in the pool, and breakfast on the terrace and we feel we’re in paradise. We wish we could stay another couple of days, or weeks, but it’s time to turn back towards Sweden again…
