Max Patch is a bald mountain top in the Appalachians close to the border between North Carolina and Tennessee not far from Asheville. After being mesmorised by a picture on social media I got the GPS coordinates and decided to find it on my next trip to Greensboro. It’s off the beaten track and was not so easy to find but well worth the effort.

The mountain is on the Appalachian trail and from the top the 360 degree views take in the Unakas, the Great Smokies, the Great Balsams and Black Mountains.
