The tail end of summer 2025

The tail end of summer 2025

The days are getting shorter. It’s noticable now. Summer is over. The sun has barely crawled over the horizon as I pull up the blinds in the morning. It’s dark again by 8 pm.

It’s stayed warm (by Swedish standards). Some days have been windy with some intense rains but on the whole quite pleasant. We’ve spent most weekends at the summer house enjoying the peace and quiet while the world keeps getting crazier. Nothing soothes the soul like a slow walk with the dog along a quiet dirt road lined with trees and fields with the warm sun and fluffy clouds playing hide and seek. The air is crisper, fresher, than a month ago. The leaves on the birch trees are starting to go yellow, it’s the first sign of autumn.

Back in Göteborg we’re back in to the routines again. I walk Cooper over Slottsberget in the mornings and now the sun is low and glaring as I pass the Port Arthur pub. The sunrises will get more intense and beautiful for a few weeks until it’s dark and doesn’t rise until I’m making my first cup of tea at the office.

One morning I have an appointment at the physiotherapist south of the river. I park close to the bridge and take some shots of the bridge. The four columns look like emaciated Easter Island statues, there is no wind and the river is like a mirror reflecting the storm clouds drifting in from the west.

On the seventh of September the sun and the moon were on opposite sides of the earth, and the earth casts it’s shadow across the moon for a short while as it rose above the horizon. The moon glowed dark red. It’s called a blood moon and it happens every two to three years. As the earth shadow moved across the moon the reflection of the sun returns, first as an intense glowing sliver until the shadow is gone and the full moon shines intensely again. Quite a sight to behold and it wasn’t easy to capture with the camera.

One afternoon I take Cooper for a walk along the Eriksberg sidewalk and back. Massive rainclouds are move quickly across the sky and drop their loads very locally. Between them the evening sun shines through lighting up fragments of rainbows across the city. Lots of contrast from the dark clouds and the sun, and some pretty amazing colours.
